Ghebreyesus: The impact of emergencies on mental health often goes unnoticed
Geneva, October 10 (Hibya) – World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a statement marking World Mental Health Day that wars and pandemics end, but their psychological impacts often remain untreated.
WHO Director-General Ghebreyesus stated: “Wars and pandemics eventually end. Wounds heal. Homes are rebuilt. But the impact of emergencies on mental health often goes unnoticed and untreated.”
He recalled that this year’s WHO World Mental Health Day program highlighted mental health in humanitarian emergencies, saying: “In addition to food, water, and medicine, people also need mental health and psychosocial support to cope, recover, and rebuild.”
