New York, 20 November (Hibya) – United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said that torture is a crime that deeply harms individuals and societies.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Türk emphasized that torture is a "heinous" crime that deeply harms individuals and societies and thanked the Anti-Torture Initiative for its vital work in promoting prevention, punishment, and accountability, ensuring a collective rejection of such inhumane behavior.
Türk stated that torture can never be justified and is never lawful: "The Anti-Torture Initiative is a safeguard for humanity, contributes to a torture-free future, and makes our world a safer, fairer, and more equal place for all people."
