Iran claims woman arrested after stripping was released
Stockholm, November 20 (Hibya) - Iran claimed that the woman arrested after stripping was released without charges.
Iranian authorities stated that an Iranian woman who stripped down to her underwear during an anti-hijab protest at a university in Tehran would not face charges.
A video capturing the moment when the woman, identified as Ahoo Daryaei, stripped in a university campus before being forcibly detained went viral on social media.
A spokesperson for the Iranian judiciary said the woman was receiving medical treatment and had returned to her family.
Her detention sparked international condemnation, and Amnesty International was among those calling for her immediate and unconditional release.
On Tuesday, judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangir stated, "She was sent to the hospital, found to be ill, and handed over to her family... no case was filed against her."
The student movement organization first released the arrest video and reported that Ms. Daryaei had an altercation with security personnel over her refusal to wear a hijab and stripped during the scuffle.
At the time, Iranian authorities stated that Ms. Daryaei was "ill" and was taken to a psychiatric ward.
