Lavrov: I want to understand the motivation behind Trump’s new ultimatum
Moscow, July 16 (Hibya) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said he wants to understand the motivation behind U.S. President Donald Trump’s new ultimatum to Russia, stating that the Ukraine issue must be resolved within 50 days. "If Kyiv had set a date for the next round of Istanbul talks, maybe thirty days would have been enough," he said.
Lavrov made remarks about Trump's statement while in Tianjin, China, attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Foreign Ministers meeting.
In Tianjin, journalists asked Lavrov to comment on the U.S. President’s words.
Lavrov said, “50 days! It used to be 24 hours. It used to be 100 days. We've all been through this,” adding, “We need to understand what motivates Trump.”
According to Lavrov, Donald Trump is under inappropriate pressure from the EU, which crudely supports Zelensky’s demands: “You know, we have a saying: Don’t dig a pit for someone else.”
