Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that she met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz within the framework of the European Political Community Summit.

Meloni noted that in addition to the latest developments in Ukraine and the Middle East, the meeting included an in-depth assessment of Europe’s competitiveness, particularly in the automotive sector, ahead of the climate discussions scheduled for October 23 and 24 at the European Council.

Meloni added: "We also thoroughly discussed preparations for the bilateral summit to be held on January 23, and focused on our shared determination to take another significant step in political and economic cooperation between our countries."
