Ghebreyesus: Türkiye combines traditional knowledge with modern healthcare
World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus sent a video message to the 3rd Traditional and Complementary Medicine Congress, held on Friday, October 3, 2025, under the theme “Healthy Century of Türkiye.”
In his message, Dr. Tedros congratulated Emine Erdoğan for her visionary efforts in the field of traditional medicine and thanked Health Minister Prof. Dr. Kemal Memişoğlu for his work demonstrating Türkiye’s commitment to combining traditional knowledge with health innovation.
Dr. Tedros emphasized that Türkiye has a deep-rooted tradition of traditional medicine nourished by Anatolia’s rich cultural heritage, noting that the certification and integration of practices such as cupping therapy and leech therapy into modern healthcare represent an important step.
He stated that Türkiye combines its determination to preserve traditional knowledge with safety, quality, and the delivery of modern healthcare services.
