Budrys: Russia’s GNSS jamming operations pose a danger
Vilnius, September 1 (Hibya) — Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys described the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) jamming incident targeting the plane carrying European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as “deliberate and dangerous” and called on the European Union (EU) to take action.
Foreign Minister Budrys described Russia’s GNSS jamming as a “deliberate and dangerous operation,” stating: “Russia’s attempt to jam GNSS signals targeting the plane carrying EC President Ursula von der Leyen is a deliberate and dangerous operation. Baltic and Eastern European countries face regular GNSS disruptions threatening civil aviation, maritime transport, and critical infrastructure. The EU must not remain silent, and the international community must act.”
In a joint letter dated June 6, 2025, Budrys called on 13 EU member states to: impose new restrictive measures on those responsible, launch international action against Russia and Belarus through the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), invest in GNSS-resilient technologies and monitoring, and take immediate measures against Russia’s malicious behavior.
