A primary health center is being built in southern Idlib
New York, April 19 (Hibya) – The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that a primary health center is being rebuilt in southern Idlib with the support of the Gavi Foundation.
According to WHO, the Ma'arrat An Nu'man National Hospital, a major 200-bed facility serving over 200,000 people, has been out of service since 2020 due to conflict-related damage and looting.
The statement noted that displaced families returning home faced a destroyed city with no accessible health facilities. “There is no emergency, maternal, or chronic care, and only a few mobile teams are available to meet rising health needs,” it said.
The statement added that, with the support of the Gavi Foundation, a primary health center has been rebuilt not far from the original hospital site:
“Once operational, it will help restore access to routine vaccinations, maternal care, and basic outpatient services. However, the needs remain high.”
WHO also issued an urgent call for support to rebuild the hospital.
