UNRWA: Nearly all agricultural land in Gaza has been destroyed and is inaccessible
New York, October 17 (Hibya) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) reported that agriculture in Gaza has been almost completely destroyed.
In a statement, UNRWA said that most of the agricultural land in the Gaza Strip has been either destroyed or rendered inaccessible.
The statement noted that the price of one kilogram of tomatoes, which once cost 60 cents, has now risen to as much as 15 dollars and is often unavailable. Families who relied on farming have lost all sources of income, and the limited food reappearing in markets is unaffordable for most people.
UNRWA called for unimpeded humanitarian aid to reach the region until Gaza’s agricultural sector can be rebuilt.
