UN High Commissioner Türk commemorates Mandela
New York, July 18 (Hibya) – United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk issued a statement on the birthday anniversary of former South African President Nelson Mandela.
Mandela Day is an international day celebrated each year on July 18, Mandela's birthday, in his honor.
In his statement, High Commissioner Türk said:
“Too many leaders govern by power and fear. Mandela—like the great visionaries of history—led differently: with empathy and compassion. He showed that equal rights and treatment do not divide societies; they make them fairer, more united, and more peaceful. This is exactly the kind of leadership we need today.”
