The Telegraph: The Putin-Trump meeting in Budapest will deal a blow to the EU
Stockholm, October 17 (Hibya) – According to the British newspaper *The Telegraph*, the meeting between Russian and U.S. Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will be a painful blow to the European Union and will strengthen Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s influence in society.
The article states: “Hungary hosting the summit wiped the smile off the EU’s face. The EU has largely been sidelined from peace talks on Ukraine and is displeased with its minor role in developing the Gaza peace plan.”
According to the article’s authors, European diplomats hope for a change of power in Hungary due to Orbán’s obstruction of EU policy, but the upcoming talks between the Russian and U.S. leaders in Budapest will only strengthen the prime minister’s standing on the world stage.
After his phone conversation with Putin on Thursday, Trump announced that they had agreed to meet soon in the Hungarian capital. The U.S. President later clarified that the meeting could take place within the next two weeks.
