European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has arrived in the Japanese city of Osaka. Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s EU-Japan Summit, von der Leyen emphasized that the timing of the summit is critical in light of global developments.

“The world is changing rapidly. For partners like us, this requires even closer cooperation to face the realities of our time,” said von der Leyen, adding that both sides act based on shared values.

She highlighted the importance of open economies, safe societies, and fair rules, and stated that the EU and Japan will continue working together to shape a world order based on these values.
