UNRWA: Diaper crisis for children in Gaza worsens, aid unable to enter
New York, July 22 (Hibya) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) announced that access to hygiene products in Gaza is severely restricted, posing a serious health risk, especially for children.
According to UNRWA, families caring for children are desperately cutting up old clothes or stitching plastic bags to use as makeshift diapers. These unsafe solutions increase the risk of infections.
The agency stated that thousands of children are in urgent need of diapers. The necessary hygiene supplies are located just a short distance away in UNRWA’s warehouses, but aid is not being allowed in.
UNRWA called for the blockade to be lifted and for humanitarian aid – especially hygiene products – to be widely delivered across the region.
