Schoof: We will continue to develop joint security guarantees
Amsterdam, August 23 (Hibya) – Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof made a statement regarding his phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Prime Minister Schoof explained that due to the current political developments in his country, he was unable to be in Kyiv today and therefore spoke with President Zelensky by phone.
He assured Zelensky that the Netherlands would continue to firmly support Ukraine, adding: “We discussed the situation following the summits in Alaska between Trump and Putin, as well as the summits in Washington between Trump, Zelensky and European leaders.”
Schoof stressed the importance of Putin sitting down at the negotiating table as soon as possible, stating:
“He will need to demonstrate that he is truly committed to lasting peace, to ending Russian aggression and violence against the Ukrainian people. In the meantime, we will continue to exert constant pressure on Russia, including preparing new and powerful sanctions. In addition, we will continue to develop joint security guarantees.”
