Schoof stated that this meaningful anniversary was commemorated today during the Joint Extraordinary Session attended by King Willem-Alexander and Princess Amalia.

In his speech, Schoof emphasized that after five dark years of the Second World War, the Netherlands regained its freedom and once again became “master of its own house.”

“Today we once again realize the importance of preserving, protecting and, when necessary, fighting for the values we have achieved. Democracy, legal certainty, peace and freedom do not exist by themselves; they require constant care and effort,” Schoof said, adding that keeping historical memory alive is essential for looking to the future with confidence.
