The announcement stated that the mine clearance operation is being carried out "to restore socially significant facilities and infrastructure necessary for the establishment of peaceful life and economic activity in the region following intense military operations."

The ministry added, "To organize the implementation of demining tasks in the liberated territories of the Kursk Oblast, a representative office of the International Mine Prevention Center of the Military Engineering Academy has been deployed. The mission is being carried out by military units and engineering detachments of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation."

The ministry also noted that military engineers will face significant challenges as the Ukrainian Armed Forces used various types of ammunition during their operations, including foreign-made munitions supplied by NATO countries.

The statement added, "Engineering units have discovered munitions banned by the Geneva Convention, including PFM-1 'Lepestok' cluster anti-personnel mines, which pose a lethal threat to civilians in the liberated areas."

Additionally, it was highlighted that one of the key aspects of the demining operation is the simultaneous clearance of residential buildings, adjacent properties, agricultural lands, and critical infrastructure, such as gas pipelines, boiler houses, power lines, communications, roads, and bridges.
