Minister Prevot emphasized the worsening humanitarian crisis in Sudan, noting that millions of people are caught in the middle of a conflict they did not choose, facing hunger, displacement, and violence.

He stressed that the world must not remain indifferent and noted that Belgium stands with the people of Sudan, supporting the provision of food, water, shelter, protection, and healthcare to those most in need through its contributions to the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF).

Prevot stated that the CERF has provided an additional $20 million in emergency aid to Sudan this week, adding: “This brings the total 2025 support to $47 million, making Sudan the fund’s top priority.”

He pointed out that humanitarian aid can ease suffering but cannot resolve the crisis, adding: “Only a peaceful political solution can restore hope to the people of Sudan. Until then, Belgium will continue to stand by them in solidarity, action, and humanity.”
