Police bust the largest illegal pornography ring in Taiwan's history
Stockholm, August 3 (Hibya) - Police have broken up the largest illegal pornography ring in Taiwan's history and arrested hundreds of people linked to Internet and Telegram forums that shared images of child sexual abuse and images of women taken without their knowledge.
The 449 people arrested so far are suspected of violating Taiwan's Prevention of Sexual Abuse of Children and Young People Act, money laundering and organized crime, investigators said at a press conference.
The Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) said about 180 subscribers who paid with cryptocurrency and network tokens, operational and management staff, and video editors were among those arrested.
One of those arrested, surnamed Chang, is suspected of running Taiwan's largest illegal pornography platform, Chuangyi Sifang, which reportedly has 5,000 members. According to the Taipei Times, Chang allegedly ran the platform on behalf of its owner, who is believed to be in China.
