Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns Paraguay's embassy relocation to Jerusalem
Ramallah, December 13 (Hibya) - The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned Paraguay's relocation of its embassy to Jerusalem today, calling it a clear violation of international law and United Nations resolutions that reject the de facto occupation of East Jerusalem and any attempts to alter its legal and political status.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the decision by Paraguay's president and called it a stance "on the wrong side of history."
The ministry emphasized that this step is entirely contradictory to Paraguay's decision on January 28, 2011, to recognize the State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital. It also constitutes disregard for the International Court of Justice's advisory opinion.
The ministry called on Paraguay's president to reverse this dangerous decision and to act in compliance with international law and United Nations resolutions, particularly those of the Security Council and General Assembly.
The ministry underscored that the decision to relocate the embassy to Jerusalem disregards the honorable history of Latin American nations in defending the values of justice and peace and their struggle against colonialism, oppression, and racism.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that it will pursue this matter at all levels and take appropriate diplomatic, legal, and political measures to prevent changes to Jerusalem's status and character and to protect its historical and cultural heritage.
