Budrys said he discussed with Motegi ways to deepen the strategic partnership between Lithuania and Japan in light of today’s complex geopolitical challenges.

He noted that their partnership is based on shared values such as freedom, democracy, and respect for international law, adding:

“We agreed that this partnership must be strengthened and expanded, particularly in the fields of security and societal resilience. Both Lithuania and Japan face broad threats from authoritarian regimes such as Russia and China. Our cooperation is essential to prevent these powers from rewriting the global order. Democracies must act together.”

Budrys thanked Japan for its strong stance within the G7 against Russia’s aggression toward Ukraine and for its unwavering support of Ukraine.
