Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurti's party leads in parliamentary elections
Pristina, February 10 (Hibya) - Kosovo's Prime Minister Albin Kurti claimed victory in Sunday's parliamentary elections, but exit polls indicate that his party remains below the majority threshold.
According to exit poll projections, Kurti's ruling Vetëvendosje party secured around 40% of the votes, down from 50% in 2021.
Expressing confidence in forming a government, Albin Kurti stated, "We are the winners, and this is good. This confirms a prosperous and democratic government."
However, due to a failure in the Central Election Commission's counting system, the official results remain uncertain.
President Vjosa Osmani called on the commission to "maintain the integrity of the electoral process and ensure the accurate counting of every vote."
The editor of the Koha media group stated that the president should dismiss the head of the commission.
Besnik Krasniqi described the system's failure to provide preliminary results as "unacceptable."
According to Koha, the center-left Vetëvendosje party is projected to secure 42% of the votes and gain 47 seats in the 120-member parliament.
The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) received 21%, the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) 20%, and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) 6%. The election commission is currently not providing any updates due to "technical issues."
Kurti came to power in 2021 when his party-led coalition secured over 50% of the votes, achieving a slim majority.
