Hamas proposes releasing all Israeli hostages in the second phase of the ceasefire
Stockholm, February 19 (Hibya) - According to Al Jazeera TV channel, Hamas has announced that it is ready to release all remaining Israeli hostages as part of the second phase of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas proposes releasing everyone "immediately" in exchange for a longer ceasefire and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the region.
Hamas spokesman Hazem Qasem rejected Israel's call for the group's complete disarmament and withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took effect on January 19. The agreement consists of three phases.
In the first phase, the group will release 33 Israeli hostages in exchange for 1,500 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
Prisoner exchanges will continue in the second and third phases, the terms of which have not yet been specified. In the third phase, the reconstruction of infrastructure damaged during the armed conflict in the Gaza Strip is expected to begin.
