Flood disaster in Bulgaria
Sofia, October 4 (Hibya) – Heavy rainfall along Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast has caused severe flooding, with three people reported dead.
The Bulgarian Ministry of Interior stated that heavy rains and dynamic weather conditions affected Burgas, Montana, and Pernik.
States of emergency were declared in several municipalities, and the ministry’s operational center was activated to implement the flood response plan.
Interior Minister Daniel Mitov announced that three people had died in the flooding and extended his condolences to their families and loved ones.
The ministry reported that the operational situation in the Burgas region is gradually returning to normal, stating:
“All forces and resources of the Ministry of Interior in the region are supporting local authorities in addressing the impacts of the floods. A yellow weather alert was issued today for dangerous conditions in the country’s northeast. Monitoring activities are also being carried out in the lower basins of the Tundzha, Yantra, and Maritsa rivers.”
The PBZN teams responded to 340 signals related to the complex meteorological situation over the past 24 hours, while police, gendarmerie, and firefighters evacuated more than 100 people from affected areas.
States of disaster have been declared in the municipalities of Burgas, Montana, Vidin, Pernik, and Kardzhali:
“Of the registered reports, 218 involved fallen trees, 100 drainage issues, and 22 rescue and evacuation calls. Over 80 settlements are without electricity, and electricity distribution companies continue repair efforts.”
In the Kardzhali region, a state of emergency was declared in the Ardino municipality after a bridge near the village of Kitnitsa was submerged. Access to the villages of Rousalsko, Lyubeno, Latinka, Avramovo, Pesnopoy, and Spoluka has been cut off.
