WSJ: European leaders propose Ukraine and Russia cede equal amounts of territory
Stockholm, August 10 (Hibya) - The Wall Street Journal reported that European leaders proposed Ukraine and Russia cede equal amounts of territory. It is said that the leaders’ proposals were conveyed to US Vice President JD Vance at an emergency meeting held yesterday in the United Kingdom.
According to the report, the leaders also stressed that the future of Ukrainians would not be discussed without their participation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is said to have been pleased with the outcome of the meeting because Ukrainian arguments were taken into account.
In a joint statement by French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, it was stated: "Only negotiating flexibility, support for Ukraine, and pressure on Russia can bring about the end of the war."
The leaders welcome US President Donald Trump’s efforts to stop the war in Ukraine and express their readiness to provide diplomatic support. At the same time, military and financial assistance, as well as sanctions against Russia, will continue.
