WHO: Skin-to-skin contact reduces newborn mortality by 30 percent
Geneva, November 15 (Hibya) – WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made a statement on the occasion of World Prematurity Day.
WHO Director-General Ghebreyesus announced that the organization has published a global guide for kangaroo mother care on World Prematurity Day.
He emphasized that this method is one of the simplest and most effective ways to save premature babies, stating: “Skin-to-skin contact is not only comforting; it reduces newborn mortality by 30 percent.”
Ghebreyesus also expressed deep gratitude to the midwives, nurses, and doctors who support premature infants and their parents during this highly sensitive period: “Their service saves lives and brings hope and comfort to millions of families around the world.”
