In Virginia, moderate former Representative Abigail Spanberger delivered one of the strongest Democratic performances in the state’s recent history as she moved toward victory.

In New York, the victory of democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani in the mayoral race marked his second defeat of former Governor Andrew Cuomo this year—first in the Democratic primaries and then in the general election, where Cuomo ran as a Trump-backed independent.

Although Democrats won with candidates from across the ideological spectrum, their campaigns shared common themes: a focus on affordability and sharp criticism of Trump’s performance.

New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told CNN, “This is not just a message about Democrats; it’s a message about our entire country. I think Americans are horrified by the outcomes of this administration.”

In California, voters approved a redistricting plan designed to increase Democrats’ chances of reclaiming control of the House of Representatives next year.

In Pennsylvania, Democratic state Supreme Court justices retained their majority, ensuring the party’s control over legal disputes likely to arise over voting rules in the hotly contested state.
