U.S. President Donald Trump, when asked whether the second phase of negotiations had begun, replied, “Of course, we can say it has already started.” Here are some highlights from Trump’s remarks:

“As you know, the phases here have merged into one another, because a major cleanup is needed in Gaza — the debris must be removed. I used the word ‘debris’ because Gaza has become debris multiplied by ten. Inside the hall are some of the richest countries in the world. There are great leaders. Representatives from 35 countries are here. Thirty-five, because we invited 35 countries — and everyone we invited came.

Many leaders want to be on the peace council. Usually, no one wants to be on a council. But this is a completely different case. It’s truly a great and wonderful honor for me.”
