Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said the financial support provided would contribute both to the security of the Ukrainian people and to Europe’s collective security, adding that Europe’s support for Ukraine would continue with determination.

Explaining the scope of the approved funding, Tsahkna said: “The European Commission has approved an additional 6.1 billion euros to enable Ukraine to procure air and missile defense systems, including Patriot systems, as well as other critical defense capabilities.”

Referring to the importance of the support on the ground, Tsahkna said: “At a time when Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian cities continue unabated, this support will strengthen Ukraine’s capacity to protect its airspace and ensure the safety of its people, while also mitigating Russia’s destructive effects on Ukrainian territory.”

Emphasizing the impact of the decision on regional security, Tsahkna said: “This package also significantly reinforces Europe’s collective security posture.”

Tsahkna concluded his statement by saying: “Europe maintains its firm stance. We stand with Ukraine.”
