This year’s surprise at Sweden’s popular ice hotel: an ice grand piano
Stockholm, December 17 (Hibya) – The biggest surprise this year at Sweden’s famous ice hotel, which opened last week, was a fully ice-made, playable grand piano.
For the 36th edition of the ice hotel this year, 89 people worked for six weeks using thousands of tons of ice and snow extracted from the Torne River.
Of the 32 rooms made entirely of ice, 12 were prepared as suites, with artists from around the world adding their personal touches to the look and feel.
Among this season’s rooms are one featuring a frozen library carved into the walls and another with spheres that create the impression of sculptures floating above the bed.
Located 200 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle, the sun shines continuously for 50 days during the summer. Arctic nature and environment are a major source of inspiration and a prerequisite for creating the Icehotel each year.
The price for a one-night stay in a double room at the ice hotel is around $600.
