Tajani noted that this was the first meeting following the Alaska Summit and the Washington talks, stressing that Russia’s latest attacks once again highlighted the importance of Europe’s role in achieving a just peace in Ukraine.

He underlined that preserving transatlantic unity is more important today than ever before and reaffirmed Italy’s determination to strengthen coordination between the EU and the US, as well as to contribute to a credible negotiation process that would provide security guarantees for Ukraine.

Tajani also reiterated Italy’s commitment to a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages, and unhindered access to humanitarian aid. He condemned the new settlement plans announced in the West Bank and any potential annexation or occupation, stressing that these steps endanger the two-state solution.

The Italian minister announced that on Monday he will meet in Rome with Palestinian Foreign Minister Aghabekian, noting that this meeting will be an opportunity to reaffirm support for the Palestinian Authority and efforts to revive dialogue between the parties.
