Damascus, May 17 (Hibya) - Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa received United States (US) Special Envoy for Syria Thomas Barrack in Damascus.
Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa received United States (US) Special Envoy for Syria Thomas Barrack at the People’s Palace in Damascus.
According to a statement from the Syrian Presidency, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Asaad al-Shaibani also attended the meeting.
Barrack stated that the meeting held about a year ago between US President Donald Trump and Ahmed al-Sharaa in Saudi Arabia “opened a new page,” adding that lifting sanctions on Syria was intended to “give Syria a chance to grow again.”
Emphasizing that the process represented “a bold and hopeful step” for Syria and the region, Barrack said significant progress had been achieved through the diplomatic efforts led by Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani.
Barrack noted that diplomacy, integration, and regional cooperation had strengthened in Syria at the current stage, adding that the country had become “a laboratory for regional hope and stability.”
