Sybiha: Strengthening sanctions against Russia is important for peace
Kyiv, September 12 (Hibya) — Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called on the U.S. House of Representatives to advance the 2026 bill aimed at strengthening sanctions against Russia and Iran, saying: “Strengthening sanctions against Russia is critically important for advancing peace.”
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called on the U.S. House of Representatives to advance the “Lindsey O. Graham Russia and Iran Sanctions Act of 2026,” which provides for sanctions against Russia and Iran.
Sybiha said Moscow is escalating its attacks against Ukraine, that serious crimes are being committed against civilians every day, and that peace efforts are being rejected. He argued that Russian President Vladimir Putin continues this policy because the pressure on his administration remains insufficient.
Stating that the legislation is of “vital and urgent importance” for Ukraine, Sybiha said: “Strengthening sanctions against Russia is critically important for advancing peace.”
Sybiha also said that the adoption of the legislation would be an appropriate sign of respect for Senator Lindsey Graham, whom he described as “a great American patriot and a true friend of Ukraine.”
