Prime Minister Starmer said that the UK last week imposed sanctions on Russia’s two largest oil companies, which finance Putin’s war machine.

He added that he was pleased the US has now joined with comprehensive sanctions against the same two companies, stating: “Putin must pay the price for his unnecessary aggression. The killings must end immediately.”

UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said they strongly welcomed this important US sanctions package.

Cooper noted that she announced the UK’s sanctions against Rosneft and Lukoil in Parliament last week, saying: “We must cut off the oil and gas revenues that fuel Putin’s illegal war. The UK and our allies are showing a determined stance against Russian aggression.”
