Russian President Putin praised "unprecedented" relations with China
Stockholm, September 2 (Hibya) – Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin began bilateral talks in Beijing on the eve of a major military parade to be held in the Chinese capital.
Putin stated that relations between the two countries are at an "unprecedented level," emphasizing that "their close communication reflects the strategic nature of Russia-China relations."
According to a video published on the Kremlin’s official Telegram channel, Putin told Xi: "My dear friend, I and the entire Russian delegation are delighted to once again meet with our Chinese friends and colleagues. Our close communication reflects the strategic nature of Russia-China relations, which are at an unprecedented level."
Putin added: "Back then we were together, and now we are together again."
Xi told Putin that "China-Russia relations have successfully withstood the test of international changes," and added that Beijing is ready to work with Moscow "to build a fairer and more rational global governance system."
On Wednesday, Xi is preparing to host the largest military parade in China’s history. The event will mark the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender in China at the end of World War II.
The parade takes place at a time when Xi seeks to project Beijing’s power on the international stage – not only as the world’s second-largest economy, but also as a major diplomatic heavyweight.
Against the backdrop of U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs that disrupted economic relations, Xi emphasized China’s role as a stable trading partner.
According to China’s state broadcaster CCTV, the two leaders met on Tuesday at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
