Prevot: Belgium and Germany share a strong vision for Europe
Berlin, February 24 (Hibya) - Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot held talks in Berlin on bilateral relations with Germany, the future of Europe, and the war in Ukraine.
Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prevot assessed bilateral relations with Germany as well as current issues, including the future of Europe and the war in Ukraine, during his visit to Berlin.
In an exchange of views with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul on the elements that connect Belgium and Germany, Prevot said: “More than 31,000 Belgians have made Germany their home. Our economies, our futures, and the challenges we face are completely intertwined. We discussed the urgent need to reform Europe and our institutions, accelerate decision-making processes, and enhance our competitiveness. We also reflected on an enlarged Europe that offers a credible perspective to our neighbors while preserving the functioning of our Union.”
Recalling that the war in Ukraine has entered its fourth winter, Prevot stated: “Air defense remains the most urgent priority to protect civilians. Moscow must end this war. Kyiv is not alone.”
International development cooperation and global challenges were also on the agenda. Prevot noted that he discussed these issues with Barbel Kofler, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Prevot also visited the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Berlin, emphasizing that at a time of rising antisemitism, protecting the Jewish community is “a living commitment.”
