Hungarian Prime Minister Orban calls on Zelensky
Budapest, February 26 (Hibya) - Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to reopen the Druzhba oil pipeline.
Hungarian Prime Minister Orban wrote an open letter addressed to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In his letter, Orban stated that the Hungarian government’s position on the Russia–Ukraine war has not been accepted for four years and argued that Hungary has been pressured to become involved in the war.
Orban claimed that Brussels and the Hungarian opposition are acting in coordination to bring a pro-Ukrainian government to power. He said that in recent days the Druzhba oil pipeline, which is of critical importance to Hungary’s energy supply, has been blocked, adding that this runs counter to Hungary’s interests and endangers secure and affordable energy supplies for families.
Stating that the Hungarian people are not responsible for the situation in Ukraine, Orban said: “We do not want to finance war efforts, and we do not want to pay more for energy. I call on you to immediately reopen the Druzhba oil pipeline and to refrain from any further actions that threaten Hungary’s energy security.”
