In a social media post, Orban wrote: “Brussels promised that sanctions would bring Russia to its knees. Instead, they brought Europe to its knees. Energy prices soared, competitiveness collapsed, and Europe is falling behind. This is the price of bad decisions.”

Orban called for the launch of peace talks rather than pursuing further escalation.

Hungary continues to remain an important partner for Russia in the supply of oil and natural gas. Orban said that Moscow guarantees the country’s security by supplying energy.

According to Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff Gergely Gulyas, rejecting Russian gas would cost Budapest around $10 billion and lead to a loss of more than 4% of GDP.
