Moscow and Beijing signed the "Power of Siberia - 2" gas pipeline agreement
Moscow, September 2 (Hibya) - Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller announced that Russia and China have signed a memorandum of understanding for the construction of the "Power of Siberia 2" natural gas pipeline.
Miller stated: "Based on the public statement of the leaders of the three countries (Russia, China, and Mongolia), a legally binding memorandum of understanding was signed today for the construction of the 'Power of Siberia 2' gas pipeline and the Union East transit gas pipeline through Mongolia."
He emphasized that a project of this scale does not allow for quick solutions.
Gazprom and CNPC also agreed to increase the amount pumped through the "Power of Siberia" from 38 billion cubic meters to 44 billion cubic meters annually. The parties also signed agreements to increase the supply volume through the Far East route from 10 billion to 12 billion cubic meters.
The "Power of Siberia" is a main natural gas pipeline stretching approximately three thousand kilometers, connecting Russia to China. The first gas arrived at the end of 2019 from the Chayandinskoye field in Yakutia. Three years later, pumping began from the Kovykta field in the Irkutsk region.
The "Power of Siberia - 2" is a project aimed at supplying 50 billion cubic meters of gas annually from Western Siberian fields to China via Mongolia. The contract is expected to last 30 years.
