French President Macron made remarks on cooperation between the two countries ahead of his visit to Spain.

Macron said, “I am coming to Spain with the aim of achieving concrete progress for our two countries.”

Macron said Europe’s sovereignty and competitiveness need to be strengthened, adding that the goals include strengthening the European budget and supporting it with new own resources, channeling savings in Europe into investment in Europe, introducing regulations in the digital sphere, and supporting companies and employment.

Macron said joint work in space, aviation and defense would be advanced, while transport links and decarbonized energy infrastructure between the two countries would be strengthened.

Macron said around 10 agreements and declarations would be signed during the visit in areas such as “digitalization, support for the Common Agricultural Policy, fisheries, combating disinformation and industry,” adding, “Between France and Spain, the Pyrenees do not divide us; they form a bridge that connects us.”
