Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni issued a written statement regarding the earthquake in Venezuela that claimed the lives of thousands of people.

Highlighting the "devastating" impact of the earthquake, Meloni said it had been confirmed that sixteen victims were citizens of Italian descent. On behalf of the Italian government, she extended her condolences to the people of Venezuela and to all families affected by the disaster, emphasizing Italy's solidarity.

The statement also noted that Italy will continue to support Venezuela during this difficult period and paid special tribute to the search-and-rescue teams working in the affected areas.

Meloni also referred to the "Hero of Venezuela" decoration awarded to Italy by Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, stating that the honor recognizes the "extraordinary efforts" of Italian personnel involved in the rescue operations.

Concluding her statement, the Prime Minister thanked the rescue teams, saying that "through their courage and humanitarian spirit, they have made the entire nation proud."
