Guterres supports Azerbaijan-Armenia joint statement
New York, August 9 (Hibya) – United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced that he welcomed the comprehensive “Joint Statement” signed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and U.S. President Donald Trump.
Guterres stated that the statement is an important milestone on the path to normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He expressed his appreciation to President Aliyev and Prime Minister Pashinyan for their commitment to dialogue and confidence-building, and also commended Trump’s efforts in playing a facilitating role in achieving this progress.
UN Secretary-General Guterres reaffirmed that the United Nations continues to provide strong support for all initiatives aimed at achieving lasting peace in the South Caucasus.
