Guterres: I am concerned about the level of violence shaking Haiti
New York, September 14 (Hibya) – UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres made a statement regarding the attacks carried out by armed gangs in the municipality of Cabaret in Haiti.
UN Secretary-General Guterres said he strongly condemns reports of at least 40 people killed during a brutal attack by armed gangs in Haiti’s Cabaret municipality.
Offering condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the people and government of Haiti, Guterres said: “I am deeply concerned about the level of violence shaking Haiti and I urge the Haitian authorities to immediately conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.”
Guterres stressed that countries must accelerate efforts to strengthen the Multinational Security Support mission to effectively assist the Haitian National Police in combating gang violence, by providing logistics, personnel, and funding.
