Ghebreyesus: The best medicine is peace
Geneva, August 27 (Hibya) – World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that 19 patients from Gaza have been evacuated to Jordan. He emphasized that more than 15,800 critically ill patients still need urgent treatment.
The WHO stated that 19 patients, including 18 children and 1 adult, along with 62 companions, were evacuated from Gaza to Jordan.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on social media that since October 2023, the organization has supported the evacuation of more than 7,600 patients, 5,300 of whom were children.
Ghebreyesus said: “More than 15,800 critically ill patients still require urgent specialized care they cannot receive in Gaza.”
He thanked the Jordanian government for its support and called on more countries to accept patients in solidarity, stressing the need to reopen the medical evacuation route to the West Bank, especially East Jerusalem.
Ghebreyesus concluded his statement with the words: “The best medicine is peace,” highlighting the importance of lasting peace to resolve the crisis.
