The WHO chief stated that he welcomes the G20’s investment in strengthening global health security under South Africa’s leadership. He highlighted efforts by countries to address the vulnerabilities in health security revealed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ghebreyesus noted that initiatives such as the Pandemic Fund, the mRNA Technology Transfer Hub in South Africa, the Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence Hub in Berlin, and the WHO Pandemic Agreement demonstrate strong collaboration toward enhancing global health security.

During the summit, he met with Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness, conveying solidarity and condolences over the impacts of Hurricane Melissa and the leptospirosis outbreak. He also reaffirmed WHO and PAHO’s commitment to increasing support.
