Ghebreyesus: LC16m8 vaccine listed for emergency use against mpox
Geneva, November 20 (Hibya) – WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that WHO has listed the LC16m8 vaccine for emergency use against mpox.
WHO Director-General Ghebreyesus stated that WHO has listed the LC16m8 vaccine for emergency use against mpox, adding: “This is a vital step to protect vulnerable populations, especially children, as mpox continues to spread.”
Ghebreyesus noted that in the past two months, half of all suspected mpox cases in the DRC were among children under 12, and added:
“The total number of suspected cases this year has exceeded 40,000, with 1,200 deaths reported. Outbreaks in Burundi and Uganda are also expanding. On Friday, November 22, I will reconvene the mpox Emergency Committee to review the epidemiological situation and ongoing interventions.”
