Ghebreyesus: A mass polio vaccination campaign is planned in Gaza
Geneva, February 19 (Hibya) – The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, announced that a mass polio vaccination campaign is planned to be launched in Gaza on Saturday.
Ghebreyesus stated that the campaign is set to begin on Saturday, February 22, targeting over 591,000 children under the age of 10.
He noted that the campaign follows the recent detection of the polio virus in wastewater samples, indicating its circulation in the environment and posing a risk to children.
He added: "WHO, UNICEF, and our partners welcome the recent ceasefire that allows us to carry out this campaign. We continue to call for a lasting ceasefire that leads to long-term peace."
