France warns Trump against threatening the EU's "sovereign borders"
Paris, January 8 (Hibya) - The French Foreign Minister firmly stated that the European Union will not allow attacks on its borders following US President-elect Trump’s comments on purchasing Greenland.
Trump proposed possible military or economic actions to control Greenland and the Panama Canal, prompting a strong reaction from the EU against expansionist threats.
The European Union rejected potential threats to its sovereign borders after the recent remarks by US President-elect Donald Trump. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot emphasized on Wednesday that the EU would not tolerate any actions undermining its territorial integrity.
Expressing interest in controlling Greenland and the Panama Canal, Trump did not rule out military or economic measures to achieve this goal. However, Barrot firmly stated on France Inter radio that he does not foresee the US occupying Greenland, a territory under Danish rule for over 600 years.
Barrot also warned against potential intimidation tactics and stressed the importance of the EU maintaining its strength and unity amidst these geopolitical challenges. Trump’s remarks, seen as part of an expansionist agenda, came shortly before his inauguration.
