China executes four more members of Myanmar mafia
Stockholm, February 2 (Hibya) - China has executed four more members of the Bai mafia, one of the notorious clans that operated scam centers in Myanmar.
They were among 21 family members and associates convicted by a court in Guangdong province on charges including fraud, murder, causing injury and other crimes.
Last November, the court sentenced five people to death, including the family patriarch Bai Suocheng, who later died of illness after his conviction.
Last week, China executed 11 members of the Ming family mafia as part of its crackdown on scam operations that ensnared thousands of Chinese victims across Southeast Asia.
For years, the Bai, Ming and several other families dominated the border town of Laukkaing in Myanmar, where they ran casinos, brothels and cyber fraud operations.
Authorities said the Bai family, which controlled its own militias, had established 41 compounds for cyber fraud activities and casinos, where a culture of violence prevailed and beatings and torture were routine.
The court said the Bai family’s criminal activities led to the deaths of six Chinese citizens, one suicide and numerous injuries.
