Albanese: Australia’s social media ban for under-16s begins within 100 days
Canberra, September 2 (Hibya) - A new regulation banning children under the age of 16 from using social media in Australia will come into effect in about 100 days.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the measure aims to protect children from online harms, reduce pressure on families, and give young people the chance to “be children.”
Albanese stressed that social media can have various negative effects on young people, from bullying to mental health problems. He highlighted awareness campaigns led by Wayne, Emma, and Fiona, who shared their experiences of loss in this context.
