President Erdoğan spoke with Russian President Putin
President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, held a phone call with President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.
During the call, bilateral relations between Türkiye and Russia as well as regional and global issues were discussed. President Erdoğan emphasized that cooperation between Türkiye and Russia is of key importance for resolving regional issues. He stated that Türkiye is closely following the process initiated to end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, and expressed that Türkiye is ready to provide any kind of support, including hosting peace negotiations, to achieve an honorable and lasting peace.
Erdoğan said that well-intentioned steps to ensure the safety of commercial navigation in the Black Sea would contribute to the peace process, and that Türkiye continues to do its part to prevent the Black Sea from becoming a conflict zone. He stressed that Türkiye attaches importance to cooperation with Russia on the Syrian issue, noting that working together to achieve lasting peace and stability in Syria based on the country’s territorial integrity is crucial. He added that efforts to incite ethnic and sectarian division must be eliminated and sanctions on Syria should be completely lifted.
President Erdoğan also stated that Syria’s resources should be returned to the Syrian administration, that Türkiye supports the integration of the so-called "Syrian Democratic Forces" into the central administration, and that fully eliminating Syria as a haven for terrorist organizations is vital for the country’s stability.
